Googleing “medical mask moisture absorbing capacity” I found: “http://www.imcclinics.com/english/index.php/news/view?id=85
I created this page with information among others from this page.
- If you dont have a mask
- Mask use errors
- Is your mask a fake?
- How to make a good mask
“CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus” (Source 1)
Observe. It slow the spread.
Masks do not eliminate” the spreading.
A study in Canada among healthcare personel (HCP)
“Saunders-Hastings et al. 2017 conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the effect of personal protective measures on pandemic influenza transmission
The meta-analysis (1) found regular hand hygiene provided a significant protective effect against pandemic viral transmission, but the effect of facemask use was not statistically significant.” Read more at www.publichealthontario.ca
Hand hygiene (HH) has significant effect against airborn viral transmission.
These results where confirmed 2012 by studying the viral spreading in in 84 households with influenza pH1N1 infection in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.
There was a potential effect observed in the subgroup that implemented masking + HH within 36 hours of symptom onset of the index case”. Read more at www.publichealthontario.ca
So if you have influensa infection at home and you implement masking + HH within 36 hours of symptom onset, you may save yourself from getting flue.
(1) meta-analysis “is a quantitative, formal, epidemiological study design used to systematically assess previous research studies is a quantitative, formal, epidemiological study design used to systematically assess previous research studies”
Aerosol is another word for moisture. We expell a lot of moisture while breathing from our lungs. I our aerosol contains virus or bacteria we call it biological aerosol or simply, bioaerosol. Read more at en.wikipedia.org
When coughing aerosol can spread up to 2 meters away from you. so keep your mask on when you cough or sneeze.
If you dont have a mask
These are three good solution:
- Hand hygien (HH)
Do not touch you face
- Social distance and if you have to cough….
cough or sneeze like this:
Mask use errors
- Respiration leaking
People who wear glasses all have had a similar experience: once they put on the mask, glasses become foggy.
Foggy glasses indicate that the mask is not worn properly.
wearing a mask like this is like not wearing a mask at all.

Is your mask a fake?
This video gives you a good idea if the medical mask is ok.
Another test a physician share in the video below is:
Can you smell odors with the mask on e.g. while cooking in the kitchen? If yes, then it is not good or well put on your face.

How to make a good mask
Image from (6) www.testextextile.com
As you can see in this image from a good surgical mask has threelayers:
- Extrerior protection against liquid like rain
- Middlepart a virus and particle filter. It filters also odours
- interior part absords moisture/ bioaerosol from wearer
This is how testex makes surgical masks.
I wrote this question to testex:
“Hello.I am writing a page about masks on my site. I wonder how a surgical mask is absorbing bioaerosol/moisture with time. I imagine that the absorbing property diminish with time as the inner layer gets more and more humid. Thank you.”
The center for disease control and prevention (CDC) shares instructions on how to make a mask.
CDC has links to this video:
CDCs kind of mask does for sure not filter out viruses but maybe absorb moisture and aerosol.
But this video shows probably a better mask production
