7 Jesus baptism

Introduction

January 13 the Catholic Mass read about Jesus baptism 30 years old. Jesus baptism has been discussed since the begining of Christianity.

As neonatal death  was very common 2000 yeaes ago.  the Catholic chruch started the tradition to baptice newborm babies as soon as possible. The church did it to save these newborn from hell. Read more about this issue in https://www.catholic.com/tract/early-teachings-on-infant-baptism

I wanted to baptice my childrens in my Catholic church but were not allowed to do that because I never went to mass at that time. We could have done that in the Protestant church but I and the mother decided that the childrens could do that as adults instead.

Jesus about baptism

according to  Matthew  28:19 Jesus said:

” 19 Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

What happens if you die and are not baptized as infant?

Catholic.com does not answer on that question but says that “you are not saved” if you are not baptized. Read more in https://www.catholic.com/tract/the-necessity-of-baptism

The pope Benedetto 16 said that we choose to get childrens so we should baptize them as “with the baptism they are protected by God” Read more in the Italian site  http://www.santamelania.it

Catholic.com also says “Thus the early Church Fathers wrote in the Nicene Creed (A.D. 381), “We believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.” 1

Only the Witnesses of Jehovah do not practice infant baptism. (read morer in https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/baptism.php )

Paedobaptism or infant baptism

As the church regards Jesus as God and therefore his baapticing not a bapticing for the sins, the church started the tradition of paedobaptism. As Jesus baptism was like a paedobaptism despite his documented 30 years of age.

Michael Servetus who was sentenced to death because of heresy, said about paedobaptism:

“It is an invention of the devil, an infernal falsity for the destruction of all Christianity.” ( Source: www.newworldencyclopedia.org/ )

Conclusion

Despite what Jesus said in MAtthew, maybe Jesus hiumself did errors as a small child and wanted therefore to get baptized for the sins made during his youth.

5. The silent years of Jesus

5. The unknown Jesus

December 28.  Jesus is growing. He was not a normal boy and may have suffered during his childhood. This is excerpt 6 from  a  page about Jesus I am working with and will publish in its final form after Easter 2019.

About  Jesus infancy, childhood and youth. The  silent years of Jesus.

About 12 year old Jesus who

“49  replied, ‘Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?'”

This is the only text describing a young Jesus in the Gospels. You din it in  Luke 2:49

Mark starts his Gospel with Jesus, maybe 30 years old,  being baptized by John.

Searching fro a picture in  the Old Testament

It looks like the gospel authors studied the old testament (OT) to get a picture of Jesus life. They  tried to draw a picture of the historical Jesus birth, childhood and youth, with inspiration  from the old books, like about the birthplace of Jesus, taken from Mika:

  • Mika 5:2 (“But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah,
who are one of the little clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to rule in Israel,
  • Salomos 7:4 (I was nursed with care in swaddling cloths. For no king has had a different beginning of existence;”).

jesus youth – a paraphrase of the life of Moses

They made the life of Jesus a paraphrase of the life of Moses who too was saved in Egypt and then similarly met his people on a mountain, Moses on Sion and Jesus outside Jerusalem.

very little  is said about Jesus  infancy and childhood experiences. We read about Jesus being a  baby in the craddle. Beside the 12 year old boy in the synagogue story, from his birth until he were baptized there is a complete darkness.

Marks first writing about the historical Jesus was At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.”  ( mark/1-9.htm ) “And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” ( mark/1-11.htm )

Matthew (Levi according to Mark) and Luke never met Jesus and had great troubles figuring out about Jesus birth and childhood. Markus who was the first to write a Gospel about Jesus, didn’t give Matthew and Luke any help.

Despite the accurate Roman documentation tradition, Josephus is the only historian telling about a Jesus in the words “Jesus called Messiah”

Talmids only shared what Jesus teached. Find a answer about Jesus birth, childhood and youth in the old testament,  was a tricky issue to deal with. All agreed the mother was called Mary, a woman who lived in Nazareth. They knew Jesus was the “son of Mary”. But as i asked in a previous post. Who was the father?

Voices in the first two centuries told Mary was raped by a Roman soldier. This Roman soldier was given the name Pantera.

Matthew and Luke must have wondered. They did not like these bad talks.

A few have tried to fill the gap

I am not the only one who try to figure out how the life of the young Jesus may have been.

  1. one is the film “The Young Messiah”  a 2016 American biblical drama film directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and co-written by Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh and Nowrasteh, based on the novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice. See ww1.theyoungmessiah.com
  2. truthbook.com/jesus/jesus-teenage-years shares a story but gives no reliable sources. It tells about a happy youth with Jesus playing harp etc. because of Jesus teaching about children and his status, I believe that Jesus had a completely different kind of childhood.
  3.  Jonas Gardell is the one who has done the most serious  research about Jesus in his book. His arguments about a Mamzer Jesus is well grounded. I will come back to this in my coming posts.
