Virgin Mary and Jesus

.

introduction

I decided to split this post into two pages, one dedicated to Mary and one to Jesus. They will hopefully be published at the end of November.

Almost everyone  in this world knows about about the Christian belief that  Jesus was born from virgin Mary. But not many knows that this is also told about in the Quran.

There are contradiction in both the Christian belief as well as in the Muslim one. I will discuss these in this article.

  • Many Christians says that Jesus is God,
but he (God?) was tempted by the devil in the desert,
while Jesus in the Gospel several times talked about God as his father and mentioned God with the name Elohim asking why God abandoned him.
  • Muslims on the other hand, believe that Jesus is just a prophet and not a son of God nor God.
while Jesus was born from virgin Mary from a unknown father

and Jesus made miracles only a God per definition should be able to do.

Jesus (Isa)

The name “Jesus, son of Mary” written in Arabic calligraphy,
followed by “peace be upon him.” بلال الدويك
(  Source: https://www.vox.com  )

Did Jesus exist?

I have never had any doubt about  that, after reading the Gospel and the Quran about Jesus and what happened in the Roman Empire after the spreading of his messages and information about his life and death.  But many  atheists question the existence of  Jesus as among others he is not mentioned by the many normally very precise Roman Empire historians like e.g.   Herodotus  and Tacitus.

Is Jesus God ?

John 10:30 ” reports that Jesus said “I and the father are one” But does that mean Jesus said “I am God” I strongly doubt that as he often talked about God as his father (for me “father” can be understood as “my Creator”). I would rather read “I and the father ” like “I and God are soulmates” or like “I am a image of God”. But this is valid for all of us, not only Jesus.

I could myself say “my dog  and I and are one.”  like being soulmates  but that doesn’t mean that I am a dog.

Muslim arguments against

Muslim sources refer to the fact that Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert and God/Allah would never allow that or Satan would never be able to do that as God  has more power than Satan.

Presuming that  Christians are right , that Jesus really is God, ” the devil in the desert temptation” story could be a way for God  to warn us humans  “Be careful of the Whisperings of the Devil.

Jesus entangled to Allah.

Muslims and Christians agree however that  Jesus could do miracles. Jesus could  according to the Gospels, see things only Allah could (e.g. people and donkeys moving around in Jerusalem ) when he was outside Jerusalem.

Aboutr Jesus being god, the Muslim are right in their arguing that a God would not be “tempted” by the devil as Jesus was in the desert. Quran 17/111 says ““and not is for him a partner in his dominion”  Muslims conclude therefore hat “Jesus is therefore not God.”

Wala yakur Lahu sharikun by al mulki
“and not is for him a partner in his dominion”

Jesus  certainly did not meant that he and God were partner in the dominion”. Everything was done with the permission of God, Jesus worshipped many times.

But Muslims recognize Jesus was the only one who could make miracles.

Some miracles show that  Jesus may have been “quantum entangled” with Allah, thinking that Jesus could see things only Allah could (e.g. see people and donkeys moving around in Jerusalem when he was outside, know names and story of the Samaritan woman etc.).

Maybe Jesus in his “Me and my father are one” talked in the sense of being able to do miracles, have divine sight and knowledge and have the same goals. I understand from the Gospels and Jesus praying that God decided over Jesus.

Is Allah the father of Jesus ?

Who is the biological father of Jesus.  that is whose mans DNA did Jesus inherit? of course not Gods.  Quran 112/3 say

He neither begets nor is born,

And quran.com/17/111 says that Allahhas not taken a son

When Jesus talked about “his father” he of course didn’t intend “my biological father that shared with me his DNA” I presume Jesus looked at God as a “spiritual father”a father in the sense of  his Creator in the whomb of Mary. The quran never specifies the kind of sonship.

Muslims correctly claims Jesus was not Gods son in the biological sense of the word. But since Muslims recognize that mary was virgin who is the biological father of Jesus?

.

Jesus miracles

In the Quran we can read about Mary and Jesus:

” And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds. ( Quran 21:91 )

And We did certainly give Moses the Torah and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Pure Spirit.” ( Quran 2:87 )

Gods Miracle

The Quran mentions a few miracles miracles. Like  this one about the table where Jesus asks Allah for a miracle, talked about in mentioned in  www.islamreligion.com :

“When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary!  Is your Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven?  He said: Observe your duty to God, if ye are true believers.  They said: We desire to eat of it and our hearts be at rest, and that We may know that you have spoken truth to us, and that We may be witnesses thereof.  Jesus, son of Mary, said: ‘O God, our Lord, send down for us a Table laden with food out of heaven, that shall be for us a recurring festival, the first and last of us, and a miracle from You.  And provide us our sustenance, for You are the best of providers!” ( Quran 5:112-114 )

Jesus miracles with Gods/Allahs permission.

The Quran clearly tells the Jesus does miracles always with Allahs permission.

In a( Quran 3:49 ) you read:

And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], ‘Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah . And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

I have not seen this in the Gospel. In a( Quran 3:49 ) above Jesus brings life to a claybird like God did creating Adam.

The sacrifice of Jesus

Morgan Freeman talks about the death and resurrection of Jesus  in his video “The story of God”

The doctrin of Christianity is that “Jesus died on the cross for the   sins of humans. If we accept this your will be saved” a explanation noone ever could give me acceptable explanation of. Why should Jesus suffer such a dead for our 21th century humans sins? All sinners the cause  of the horible death of Jesus? It sounds like God condemned jesus to death because we were the sinner.

Muslims do not accept that Jesus was killed as “Allah would not have permitted that a messenger like Jesus  would have been treated like that”. I supported for long time this idea a s there is a tomb in Srinagar, India that supports it.

I have found however another explanation why Allah let Jesus die like this. I have:

Two hypothesis about Jesus martyrdom

  1. God let Jesus offer himself as a redemption for for the evilness of human beings and  the suffering  human beings havde experienced, a suffering and evilness  that is a integrated part of Gods human creation.  Animals does not suffer death and evilness in the same way as we do. God as alknowing and perfectly knew that humans with such a brain  were susceptible to the whispering of the devil  and prone to be terribly evil. The angels argued about that with God according to the Quran. But the offering may have have had also a second  purpose:
  2. Jesus became a example for many of those Christians to become martyrs in the Roman empire. Without his offer, would we maybe today still venerate Roman Gods.

Thanks to Jesus good example of accepting and tollerating suffering,  poor Christians in Rome were able to met  horrible tortures and death with extreme courage, a courage that impressed even Roman soldiers so strongly that some of them and even a Legion  onverted to Christianity and became themselves martyrs.

A Christian church inside a Roman army fortress in Megiddo, Israel was discovered in the 1990’s.

Cleaning the Megiddo Mosaic
                                                                      Cleaning the Megiddo Mosaic

The small church was created from a back room in the fortress by Christian soldiers stationed there. The fortress served as the military headquarters of the Legio II Traiana (“Trajan’s legion”) and Legio VI Ferrata (“Ironclad Legion”). Maybe even these two legions were slaughtered. (Source: earlychurchhistory.org )

Whatever happened with Jesus or whatever the reason of his martyrdom were, them the most important is that Jesus gave us good ethical rules to become good humans and be able to met evil in a successful way (” Do not judge and love your neihbor and enemy”). Thanks to Jesus we have today many good examples of  kindness and love around the world as well as good behaviour fighting evilness like  with “passive resistance“. Following Jesus  example and messages we  have better possibility to be resurrected for a happier life.

Did Jesus die on a cross or on a stake?

This is really an  irrelevant question. But I explain below the reason iigive this question so much space.

Crucifixion was such a gruesome and humiliating way to die that the subject was somewhat of a taboo in Roman culture, and few crucifixions were specifically documented. One of the only specific female crucifixions we have documented is that of Ida, a freedwoman (former slave) who was crucified by order of Tiberius.” (Source: Wiki  )

Some say that the cruxifixion and hand nailing of Jesus is prooved by the schroud in torino, Italy.

But the examination of it shows that “Blood pattern analysis (BPA) of the blood marks on the Shroud of Turin show that they are non-realistic.”

The cross/stake question is interesting as its  answer reveals how the Gospels  like the old testament have been erroneously translated from Greek. The Witnesses of Jehovah talk a lot about this,   to explain why the  jehovahs-witnesses doesn’t worship  images  of Jesus on a cross. They say that the “Bible indicates that Jesus did not die on a cross but rather on a simple stake.”  (source: https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1101989219 )

.

Erroneous translation in all the Gospels.

The Jehovahs witness looks to be be correct. You can see this “stake-cross” mistranslations in all the Gospels.

You find all these mistranslations googleing with the text
cross /site:biblehub.com/interlinear

or with
“crucified /site:biblehub.com/interlinear”

My Lutheran priest here in Sweden aknowledged that this mistranslating is a fact. I decided  therefore to “amputate” my  golden cross to resemble a pole.

I have however now to the idea that Jesus had  to carry the horizontal beam (patibulum in Latin) to the place of execution, but not the whole cross as it is to heavy. Jesus tied to the horizontal beamand was appended  on a stake so it looked like a  T as Morgan Freeman illustrates it in his video  “The story of God” from minutes 17:40.

 .

Conclusions

For me it is enough that Jesus is a prophet, a prophet that could do miracles. like the Muslims believe.

Jesus is not God for me. God decides over all of us, even Jesus.

We are all sons of God in a metaphorical sense as God created us all.

of course God does not get children in the biological meaning of it.

I believe in the miracles as I think that God can do anything, like he created the Universe.

there are a lot of misunderstanding between different religions as believers have their own conception of things. We must do our best to understand each other and to achieve this the only solution is dialog.

Creation believes

Introduction

I digged into the Christian and Muslim creation believes as well as studying the Scientists prevailing creation hypothesis today. This study led me to write  what I call a enlightened Genesis that infuse a Scientific idea of a creation with a theological (Christian and Muslim Creation sacrd texts). I wrote it with the idea of what God would have shared today to a prophet, a prophet and a humanity that understand  things we didn’t understand 6000 years ago.

I still update it. I got a occasion to do it after

Swedish television shared in svtplay.se the Morgan Freeman documentary the story of God cut into two pieces “1. “The creation” and “2. What is God?”. You are able to see the svtplay contents if you get a Swedish IP. You can get one  with an account in ovpn.se. I use it when I am in Italy. His docs are melted into one in his The Story of God in Youtube also available in German unfortunenately with the Creation ideas cut out leaving the afterlife part i also wrote about in www.kinberg.net/wordpress/stellan/2018/01/24/life-afterlife/ .

I am especially interested in the creation stories around the world Freeman  talks about In the svtplay doc part 1 . I will document about this in this article.

Creation believes

Bible and science

Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, popes chief Science representative  ( http://www.pas.va created 1603 with Galileo Galilei as the first generation leader and George Le Maître a 19th century member) said among others:

The Bible is not a scientific idea of the Creation”
The Bible is an idea of he Creation in a theological sense”

“The Big Bang is not and has nothing to do with the Creation”

The Catholic church does not see anymore the Bible as the literal description of the Creation”

The Franciscan brothers in Jonsered, Göteborg  told about the same. The Genesis is telling about Gods involvement in the Creation, not how God created it.

It is interesting to compare this pontifical view (“theological creation”) with the Jehovas Witness view in https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102010234  where they analyze the Bible texts very  carefully and dismantle Christian Creationist literalists view.

Giuseppe Tanzella Nitti ( http://www.tanzella-nitti.it  ) editor in chiedf of http://inters.org/ said: “The creation from a theological point of view is perfectly compatible  with Big Bang Because you always need a first cause. God, the  creator, is outside space-time, is before any time. The act of Creation is a never last acting, because the Creation is the way God continuously holds the Universe.”
Thi is very similar to a Muslim Creation idea.

Freemans concludes with:“God, the master of space and time.”

Mayan genesis

The Maya Corn God Huhnapu is tricked to go to the underworld. But once there  he was beheaded.

The twin sons set of to rescue him from the underworld. To get there they had to  be burned to ash.  As their ash got down to the subterranean  waters, the hero twins regenerated.

The Hero Twins swimmed back with their father Huhnapus head

The twins returned to Earth and the twin heoes  started the Creation process by planting their fathers head like a seed in the ground.

This was the first corn seed the Maya people were created with:

The center of heaven

the center of heaven for the Mayan people is in the middle of the  constellation of Orion

In the middle of the triangle there is a nebula, a cosmic cloud of star creation.

A Maya ritual today is to place three stones and in the middle of it light a ritual fire. The three Orion stars are still important for them.

This reminds me about the Christian Trinity, God, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Hinduism

Hinduism has another idea of Creation.

Ganges

Ganges or Ganga, the mother Ganga, is the center of the whole Universe. Ganga is one of the millions of Hindu Gods

In the beginning, Ganga floated in the Heavens (in the Milky way) but was held captured by the creator God Brahma.

Brahma decided to send Ganga down to Earth.

But Ganga is so Powerful so it can drown the whole Earth.

God Shiva blocked Gangas fall, gathering the water in her hair making it streaming like a river that became Ganges.

Hindus believes in cycles of Creation. The primordial creation happened 8.6 billion years ago

Brahma created the Universe.

Aarti

In the ritual called “aarti”, taking place every year on the banks of Ganges.  Hindu thanks the God for the existence offering lights to the Gods. Their prayer says:

“God you are like my father, you are like my mother. My whole existence is you,  I am like a shadow, I am a vessel that contains you”

This is o similar to the Christian view that God has a temple inside everyone of us. So nice “I am a vessel that contains you, God”

Seven priests offer seven elements to Ganga:

  1. water,
  2. air
  3. earth in the form of flowers
  4. light, that repesent our souls.

“Let Ganges bring the vessel with my soul where it is good for me.”

Rwanda

In Rwanda there is a different Creation belief.

In the beginning there was neither existence nor non existence, beyond human definition and human intellect.

Aborigene genesis

According to aranda aboriginal oral traditions all begun in the  basin called  Tnorala 160 km west of Alice Springs. Tnorala was formed from a metheor impact 142.5±0.8 million years ago . Tnorala is today registered as a sacred site. (Source https://arxiv.org/pdf/1306.0278.pdf   ).

Aranda people say that all started in the dreamtime when the Sky Gods were in the Milky way. Women dansed at a ceremony. One of the women put her baby in a wood baby craddle. The milky Way started to shake and the women lost the craddle that fell down to Earth. From that impact life started and soon thereafter men and women were created.

Aranda people tradition is to say hello to the ancenstors when entering Tnorala.

Other intresting information given

Adams grave in Jerusalem

All know that Adam ( Adam=Man in Hebrew) was according to the Bible created in Eden between Eufrat and Tigris. In the documentary, a  but he died according to a tradition in Jerusalem under Golgata where everyone can visit Adams chapel according to Jody Magness, archaeolog.

.

Quran

The creation of human beings – Adam

This is what I know about Islam. Adams was accordinng to the Quran , created in Heaven and had to descend to Earth when he did not obey Allah. He became the fist prophet according to Islam.
I were inspired by the Quranic Adam in my article  “enlightened Genesis”  and added Quranic sources in it.

The Bible doesn’t say about Adams life after Eden. Nor does the Quran. Adam may really have died in Jerusalem as we get know by Morgan Freeman. It is interesting that the oral tradition says that Adam resurrected when Jesus blood from over his grave  touched him.

The Creation of the Universe

The Quran says “And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.”
quran.com 51:47  )

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We separated them, and made from water every living thing?  Then will they not believe?” ( Quran 21:30 )

Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, “Come [into being], willingly or by compulsion.” They said, “We have come willingly.” ( Quran 41:11 )

.

Conclusion

Morgan concludes:

“Our believes doesn’t have to divide us”
“They have the power to unite us.”

I hope that my enlightened  Genesis will help out with this, despite being a total paradigm shift.

I got in among other Youtube comments where I am active,  a few blackout reactions.  Paradigm shifts can be difficult and painful.  I respect that. Some people where probably reluctant to a pluralistic view being themselves maybe dogmatic atheists or whatever. But rereading my genesis a few times, will they maybe understand better. Paradigm shifts require time.

أَذَان – Adhan

I like the statement of Morgan above. I think that working for religious tollerance and the spreading of inter-religious knowledge like Morgan does, the Pope Franciscus talks about and practice, praying together in like prayers doen together like Paul organized in Assissi or with call to prayer in Churches (أَذَان – Azan –  Adhan ) , we can achieve that maybe one day.

The dhurches being often closed here in Sweden I pray often like a Muslim as I write about in http://www.kinberg.net/wordpress/stellan/2018/08/01/praying-like-a-muslim/

I learned to recite Al-Fatihah and  feel very well with praying Salat.

The resurrection

The Bible and the Quran (repeatedly) reminds us that a Resurrection is to come.

The day of Resurrection, I am pretty sure we will know  a loving and forgiving (“7millionx77 million”) and tollerant  God

  • A God that does not discriminate,
  • a God talks to all of us,
  • a God that loves all humans regardless of origins, culture and religion,
  • a God that loves humans who are kind and practice love
  • according to the prophets, whatever prophet and religion we followed.
