Short vowels
Short sowels are made with the Arabic signs Fatha, Khashar and Dhamma.

Long vowels
There are three long vowels:
- Long alif – “alif madd”
if alif is preceded by a letter with fathah - Long Yah – “Ya madd”
if yah is preceded by a letter with kashra - Long Waw – “vaw madd”
if waw is preceded by a letter with dammah
The long vowel is read with the preceding letter as one syllable.
