Mc 13,33-37 says

13:33 Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don’t know when the time is. 13:34 “It is like a man, traveling to another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.
13:35 Watch therefore, for you don’t know when the lord of the house is coming, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning;
13:36 lest coming suddenly he might find you sleeping.
13:37 What I tell you, I tell all: Watch.”

The message

The value of watch

13:35 Watch, therefore, for you don’t know when the lord of the house is coming, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning;
13:36 lest coming suddenly he might find you sleeping. 13:37 What I tell you, I tell all: Watch.”

Matthew 25:13 as part of the bridegroom parable, says about the virgins:

25:13 Watch, therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

conclusion

 there is much we don’t know about.

  • We don’t know when we will die.
  • We don’t know what happens after we die.
  • We don’t know if and when there will be a Resurrection

We can not exclude anything.

In this time of Advent, the thoughts are about Jesus come back December 24 as it is traditionally celebrated .

But it is said that Jesus comes back at the Resurrection according to the books.

But for me, Jesus is always there.
And when I die maybe I will have a deepened dialog with him, like I hope to have with my mother, father and grandfather.

The word “Watch” does obviously not mean that we should do nothing but watch around.

The text of today talks about watching for the Son of Man coming back.
I interpret “watch” as we must:

  • prepare ourselves for a Spiritual life after this bodily one.
  • prepare ourselves for someone speaking to our heart.
  • prepare ourselves for a return of friends and those we have lived with ( in effect, a Resurrection).
  • prepare ourselves for a Spiritual life after this bodily one.

As someone said:

“as you prepare your bed in this life you will sleep in your next”

I think it is smart to behave well and to follow Jesus commandments
