A true Christian does not only talk

Tomorrow Sunday 26 Mt 21,28-32another parable is read in the Catholic church.

We read the parable of two sons of a vineyard owner. It is about being true Christians who not only attend mass but also follow Jesus’ commandments. Many don’t as it is so difficult.

I have collected links to all parable in my kerygma index page.

The text

( N:B. The texts below are copied from www.christianwritingtoday.com/free_downloads/WebNT_CWTedition.pdf )

One has to read 21:23 to understand who Jesus is talking to in todays reading.

21:23 When he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching,

So Jesus was talking with the temple priests and elders.

Matthew 21:28-32 says:

21:28 But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, ‘Son, go work today in my vineyard.’
21:29 He answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind, and went.
21:30 He came to the second, and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but he didn’t go.
21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Most certainly I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering into the Kingdom of God before you.
21:32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. When you saw it, you didn’t even repent afterward, that you might believe him.

The message

21:30 He came to the second, and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but he didn’t go.

It is like the one who says the creed in Church but then does not follow Jesus’ Commandments.

www.lachiesa.it/calendario/Detailed/20200927.shtml shares an interesting conclusion:

The parable makes us understand how real the danger is for us too of participating, with apparent docility, throughout our life, in liturgical celebrations and in the activities of the Church, without ever becoming true Christians.

I love to listen to the pope Francis Angelus. I share a copy with the transcript activated in my channel so deaf and people who do not understand Italian. can understand his message.

I have another parable today, I think. However, I am happy with my interpretation. Jesus’ teaching is astonishing.

John 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. If all Christians would do that…
