Today Mt 17,1-9-Italian (Matthew 17:1-9 in English ) is read. It is about Jesus appearing to the disciples with Moses and Elia. I am very skeptical about all those miracle stories that are found in the Gospels. I wrote about it in my page about Jesus kerygma.
But what makes me dedicate time to this story is what Jesus said according to the author of Matthew after the appearance:
Don’t tell anyone what you saw,
until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
Matthew 17:1-9 says
17:1 After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light. Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.
17:4 Peter answered, and said to Jesus,
“Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying,
“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
17:6 When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
17:7 Jesus came and touched them and said,
“Get up, and don’t be afraid.”
Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying,
“Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
This text is visualized in this video as this appearance of Moses and Elijah was real. Read more about this appearance below.
I think that this man from the channel “Unlearn the lies” is sharing a very important analysis about the fact that the disciples had a vision in their mind. As Jesus confirmed thereafter with “Dont tell about this vision….”
“Get up, and don’t be afraid.” as mentioned by the Pope after the mass is a important message especcially in this time of suffering because of war humans have started and of the Corona epidemy . He said Get up. He didn’t say Pray!
This is according to me important. We can not just remain on our place in face of what is happening. We must act.
About the Corona epidemy I am personally active in local FB groups where infection prevention is talked about and I updated my own knowledge about virus inexperiential-learning/#issue2
I have found a part in the Gospels where it is indirectly said that we must act.
It support my idea that we must use the resources we got, among others our brain.
We can not expect that God, Jesus, Mary or some Saint will do the job for us. We must do it, protecting ourselves and our cohumans from dangers, like viruses and wars.
